Hello again and welcome to another Own Your Life Club Newsletter!

glass-of-wineOver the weekend a young person we know lost his driver's licence because he had a blood alcohol reading over the legal limit.  And this was the day AFTER he'd had a few drinks - the alcohol in his system was left over from the previous night. There were no other charges laid and no accidents or injuries resulted.  Thankfully.

It was a complete surprise to him as he didn't feel under the weather and thought the alcohol would have been out of his system by then.  He's now coming to terms with the reality of the next six months without his licence. 

But there's a bigger downside.  He's also coming to terms with the fact his reaction times may have been affected and he could have been involved in a crash or even caused someone's death or disability.   

It's a serious warning and wake up call to those of us who enjoy a couple of glasses of wine, beer or spirits in the evening or at a party on the weekend.  We have no way of knowing what our blood alcohol level is at any given time.  The reading can be affected by factors other than alcohol consumption, such as how much and the type of food we've eaten, our body weight, if we're tired or lacking sleep, whether we're male or female.

What can we do to make sure we're not inadvertently drink-driving?  For a start, we need to be more aware of how many drinks we're having, make sure we eat before drinking, have a glass of water between drinks, and stop drinking early if we intend getting behind the wheel the next day.

We're all so dependent on our cars these days and many people would struggle to get to work, do the weekly shopping, take kids to school, get to soccer or footy training etc without a car.  It's a big deal.

And if we can prevent just one death or injury on the road then it's worth a bit of thought before we raise our glasses.

We have a friend whose brother is a police officer in the UK and he tells us that in his experience most drink drivers are charged in the morning on their way to work.

A sobering thought...

By acting in harmony with your soul’s desire, and not just the desires of your mind, heart and senses, you will be well prepared for both inner and outer success.

To truly set your intention or your goals in your mind, you need to write them down and then look at them regularly. This sounds like a very basic thing to do, but it is critical to achieving what you want. By writing your goals down and looking at them you activate the reticular activating system in your brain, which vastly increases your chances of achieving your goals.

Get what you need

Learn how to get what you need to be true to yourself.

It is not enough to say, “I want to be me”. To know yourself and be true to yourself, you must understand the ten different kinds of love and support that every person needs. With an understanding of what you are missing and how to get it, you will begin to automatically to experience inner success.

A car may work fine, but if you don’t fill it up with petrol it won’t run. Likewise if you are not getting certain love needs fulfilled, you cannot find your true self. If we are not getting what we need then we forget our true nature for a while.

Happiness is our true nature. To experience and reconnect with it, we simply need to feel the kind of love and support that we need. Until we open our hearts to receive what we need, we cannot find happiness.
          
Get what you want

The secret of personal success is to be true to yourself and to continue to want more. To achieve personal success, it is not enough to be happy. You must also grow in your desire for more.

Passion is power! When you really want more, you will get it. People who don’t have more don’t give themselves permission to want it. In some cases, they might like the idea of having more, but they don’t go all the way and
really want it.

To have outer success, we must want it so much that it hurts when we don’t get it. At the same time, we must learn how to release and heal that hurt so that we can experience inner happiness as well.

We must be able to consistently find inner joy, love, confidence and peace, while dealing with the inevitable waves of frustration, disappointment, worry and other negative emotions that come with the desire for external success.

The secret of all outer success really is desire. You must know what you want, feel it deeply, and believe. When you continue to feel and act on what you want, the universe responds to your will.

Remove the blocks to personal success

A huge part of setting our goals and achieving them is identifying what it is that may be holding us back from achieving our goals. These are our blocks and most of us have at least one block, if not several, that stand in the way of us achieving fulfilment.

There are 12 basic blocks that prevent us from achieving personal success.

By becoming aware of our blocks we can recognise what is holding us back, work through the blocks to remove them and then point ourselves in the right direction for success.

Learn to release any of the 12 blocks that may be holding you back:

  • blame
  • depression
  • anxiety
  • indifference
  • judgement
  • indecision
  • procrastination
  • perfectionism
  • resentment
  • self-pity
  • confusion
  • guilt


With this new ability, you will begin to experience that nothing outside yourself is holding you back.
