Two weeks ago Richard and I attended a 3 day Options and CFDs training course run by Daniel and we were very impressed with Daniel’s teaching style and how much we learnt in 3 short days.

We had tried Options Trading a few years ago without a great deal of success. But we loved the concept and recently decided to learn more about it, with a focus on risk management - which was our downfall when we traded options previously!

We’ve learnt a lot about ourselves in the past few years and have worked very hard on our personal development and growth, two important factors in trading the share market. We’re much better prepared to deal with the psychology of trading now. Most people who trade Options or CFDs or Shares will tell you that what goes on between your ears is just as important, if not more important, than the actual trading.

We had an awesome weekend with Daniel. He has such a likeable personality and a very easy to follow teaching style. He stresses that protecting your capital is the no. 1 objective and teaches strategies to help you do exactly that. We feel much more confident now and love the fact that Daniel’s company, Platinum Pursuits, has a fantastic support system to guide us along the way.

We’re excited to be getting involved again!

Bill Gates Hits The Nail On The Head …

Bill Gates gave a speech at a High School about eleven things the students did not and will not learn at school. He talked about how feel-good, politically correct teachings have created a generation of kids with no concept of reality and how this concept is setting them up for failure in the real world.

Rule 1: Life is not fair - get used to it!

Rule 2: The world won’t care about your self-esteem. The world will expect you to accomplish something BEFORE you feel good about yourself.

Rule 3: You will NOT make $60,000 a year right out of high school. You won’t be a vice-president with a car phone until you earn both.

Rule 4: If you think your teacher is tough, wait till you get a boss.

Rule 5: Flipping burgers is not beneath your dignity. Your Grandparents had a different word for burger flipping: they called it opportunity.

Rule 6: If you mess up, it’s not your parents’ fault, so don’t whine about your mistakes, learn from them.

Rule 7: Before you were born, your parents weren’t as boring as they are now. They got that way from paying your bills, cleaning your clothes and listening to you talk about how cool you thought you were. So before you save the rain forest from the parasites of your parent’s generation, try delousing the closet in your own room.

Rule 8: Your school may have done away with winners and losers, but life HAS NOT. In some schools, they have abolished failing grades and they’ll give you as MANY TIMES as you want to get the right answer. This doesn’t bear the slightest resemblance to ANYTHING in real life.

Rule 9: Life is not divided into semesters. You don’t get summers off and very few employers are interested in helping you FIND YOURSELF. Do that on your own time.

Rule 10: Television is NOT real life. In real life people actually have to leave the coffee shop and go to jobs.

Rule 11: Be nice to nerds. Chances are you’ll end up working for one!

If you agree, pass it on.
If you can read this - Thank a teacher!
If you are reading it in English - Thank a soldier!

Happy Mother’s Day to all the mums. I hope you’re being spoilt and having a fun day with the family.

I thought I’d give a short history of the tradition of Mother’s Day. It’s known by different names around the world, ie Mother’s Day, Muttertag, La Festa della Mamma, Mothering Sunday, Fête des Mères, Día de las Madres… however the love and heartfelt appreciation is the same the world over.

Most mothering festivals in early history were held in the springtime to celebrate the rebirth of the land and the beginning of the most fertile time of the year. In the land Down Under where European settlement began only a couple of hundred years ago, we celebrate Mother’s Day in autumn - which doesn’t make sense really, when the celebration is about fertility and renewal. But anyway…

The modern version of Mother’s Day with families bringing flowers and gifts (wanted and unwanted but all appreciated) to their mums, can be traced back to 17th Century England. Mothering Sunday was the fourth Sunday in Lent…even the strict rules about fasting and penance were forgotten on this special day. Children who were away from home learning a trade or working as servants were allowed to return home for the day. The family gathered to share food and drink with Mother as the special guest. Mothers were given treats of cakes and wildflowers.

In the US in 1914 President Woodrow Wilson declared that Mother’s Day should be celebrated as a national holiday on the second Sunday in May. Here in Australia, as with many other countries, we celebrate Mother’s Day also on the second Sunday in May. In the UK Mother’s Day, or Mothering Day, is held on the fourth Sunday in Lent, which is difficult for hubby Richard whose mother lives in the UK - he always forgets!

It’s a celebration of mothers…dedicated to honoring the mums who give so much to their families without asking for anything in return. Perhaps every day should be Mother’s Day, but most families are too busy with everyday things to say thank you for every meal, every good night kiss or every piece of ‘advice’.

Once a year, the world stops being busy and says thank you. Flowers, cards and gifts are just the outward signs. What we mothers love most is the fact that our families really do notice all that we do and on this one day we are queen … and this mother’s 20-something year old sons have offered to cook dinner tonight!

Happy Mother’s Day!

Who’d have thought?

Men and women both did better in mental arithmetic tests after being given ‘resveratrol’, the wonder ingredient in red wine, or more precisely in the skins of red wine grapes.

The plant chemical, said to have abilities from burning off junk food and warding off heart disease, to being an anti-inflammatory and preventing as well as curing cancer, is believed to increase blood flow to the brain.

These are big claims. In the meantime, I’ll just pour another glass of red wine. I used to drink red wine because it tastes so good. But now I’m drinking it purely for medicinal purposes!

Cheers!

A university in Liverpool, the home of the Beatles, is the first academic institution in the world to offer a Masters Degree on the life and legacy of The Beatles. How cool is that!

The new course at Liverpool Hope University is called The Beatles, popular music and society. It begins later in the year and will cover four modules of study. I guess that’s one module for each Beatle!

I was one of their biggest fans and there was a time when I knew everything there was to know about the Fab Four. That would be one University Degree where I could probably get top marks!

Hmmm, I wonder whether they do a correspondence course…?

The proportion of students aged 45 to 54 years has now overtaken the 24 to 34 year age group.

Some have retired already and others will be looking at retirement options in the next few years and they want to stretch their minds or prolong their careers.

What is motivating them and what are they looking for in retirement?

Some will just want to fill their time by learning something new while others will be looking for a retirement income stream to help pay for all the fine wine and holiday cruises!

Today’s retirees are fitter and younger than previous generations. Their lifespan is longer and they can expect many years of retirement.

However retirement is a huge upheaval and requires careful planning. Especially in the current global economic downturn and the uncertainty of what the future will bring.

Many baby boomers will need to work longer as they watch their retirement funds shrink. Those with money in the bank are seeing the interest on their savings plummet so it’s a double whammy for them. And falling interest rates are not helping those who have paid off their homes and no longer have a mortgage.

The first step towards a successful and fulfilled retirement is education. A growing number of baby boomers are realising this and are returning to high school or university to further their education, to fulfil a long-held desire or to create an income stream.

That’s awesome! The more you learn, the more you grow. And the more satisfied you’ll be with your life!

With today’s technology, learning is easier than ever. It can all be done online from home at a time to suit yourself! Here at Own Your Life Club we now have over 560 educational, inspirational and motivational audios, videos and eBooks to ensure your learning experience is easy, convenient and fun! Discover how easy it is!

Go on, give it a go! You’ll feel happier, healthier and more fulfilled. And that’s true of learning at any age, not just Baby Boomers!

Ben Graham - Unemployed to Super Bowl In 8 Weeks!…

His NFL career had hit the lowest of lows. He was cut from the New York Jets, then re-signed, then cut again. Then he joined New Orleans before being drafted to the Arizona Cardinals. Now, he can climb the highest mountain! This is Ben Graham’s story….

Only 4 months ago his world was crashing down. Everything Ben Graham and his wife Katie had worked for over the past 3 years was gone. He was sacked by the New York Jets after a bad game. Where had it all gone wrong?

He was despondent but Katie said, “It’s OK. We’ll get another chance. We’ll turn it around.”

Then a strange thing happened. The New York Jets asked Ben back after his replacement was injured and he was over the moon. Expecting to stay for a long career, just as he had at Geelong, he was shocked to be sacked again after only two games, with no explanation and no goodbyes.

Two months later Ben was still unemployed but had re-discovered his love for his craft and his competitive spirit. At the slightest hint of a job opportunity he was motivated to go for a run, take a bag of balls to the park, or go to the gym for a workout.

When he was depressed and barely able to get out of bed, Katie would remind him why they were in the US. To play in the NFL! His confidence began to re-emerge. An NFL coach had once told Ben that most kickers and punters need to go through these ups and downs to prove how much they really want it and realise their potential.

Tryouts and calls from seven teams and still nothing. During this difficult period Ben learnt some valuable lessons. You find out who you are; you find out who your friends are; and you find out how strong your family is.

Katie longed for Ben to play with the Arizona Cardinals. She had circled Arizona on the map - it was closer to the west coast and therefore closer to home, Australia! Then a funny thing happened in November 2008. The phone rang and Katie said, “Please be the Arizona Cardinals.” And it was! “It’s fate, it’s meant to be,” said Katie.

Ben Graham has learnt that you have to pass failure on the way to success. And now here he is, from unemployed to preparing to play in Sunday’s Super Bowl in just eight weeks! And the first Aussie ever to do so….

If you believe in your ability and remain focused on that next opportunity, you’ll be ready for it when it comes. And don’t forget to ask for what you really want - see it, feel it, plan it. Just as Katie did.

This is a wonderful story in personal development and we wish Ben Graham every success on Sunday at the Super Bowl!
