Richard Beazley
Richard Beazley was born in London 1954. His upbringing during his infant years was based around the Cockney streets of London, where grocery shopping was done from the stalls in the hustle and bustle of the Walthemstow markets, where coal was delivered by a horse and cart, and steam trains and trolley buses were the only mode of transport unless you could afford a car. And where a trip to Southend On Sea was a holiday adventure and a trip to the hot baths with his father was a monthly necessary venture. There was no bathroom where Richard lived.
In 1965 Richard Beazley, his younger sister and parents had a new bungalow built in the beautiful country and south coastal area of Poole in Dorset. A new school in the country village of Upton was a far cry from the grey school of smoggy Walthemstow. New friends and the fresh country life were the best ingredients for a healthy adventurous childhood.
Richard graduated from Lytchett Minster Secondary School in 1971, and after one year joined the Royal Air Force as a Policeman. The RAF took him to Devon where his hockey talent soon led him to travel to Europe to represent the RAF. A 3 year term in Germany was the icing on the cake for Richard as it was during this time he excelled his hockey career with the RAF, playing in tournaments throughout Germany, Belgium and Holland.
By 1977 Richard had left the RAF and settled down in Holland with his Dutch wife Anne. Learning the Dutch language and taking a course in Architectural Draftsmanship led him to working for a local family builder. His hands on approach within the building industry gave Richard the skills and confidence to restore a 200 year old cottage where their first son Roger was born in 1980. The building industry collapsed and there seemed to be no future for Richard with his qualifications, nor likely to be in the near future.
Soon afterwards, Richard and his wife decided to take their one year old son and emigrate to Adelaide, South Australia. It was a life long dream of Richard’s to live in Australia. Perhaps seeing Rolf Harris on TV making sounds on his wobble board and his amazing artistic paintings was what set the scene. Richard believes that Australia was and still is today the great land of opportunity
Richard started his own business in pine furniture manufacturing, and restoring cane and wicker furniture. Where did this come from? Richard couldn’t tell you, but he saw a niche market that he was interested in, and with a gut feeling, went for it. The seed had been sown and Wicker Works grew from it.
For more than 25 years Richard has turned Wicker Works into a full time passion, he loves going to work. From learning the skills of furniture manufacturing, importing cane and wicker furniture, wholesale and retail, and furniture restoration. Everything was going well, his second son Greg was born and was already attending school, a new home in the foothills and regular holidays. Life was good.
By 1996 Richard found himself divorced and in debt. There was only one thing he could do. Start all over again. Wicker Works was restructured to retail and restoration of cane furniture only. Life had hit the bottom but with the help of his new partner Julie Vale, a turning point for the better had occurred.
The year 2000 saw Richard and Julie get married, a strong bond was formed between Julie's two boys (Aaron and Noah) and Roger and Greg. A new home was established and Richard had found his soul mate but financially it was pretty demanding. Wicker Works wasn’t going to financially support them for the years ahead. Alternative measures had to be put in place, a plan B. After attending several seminars about personal development, share trading, property investing and the internet, Richard and Julie knew that they had to take control of their lives. That’s when a decision to take control of their own finances lead them to their current situation.
Today Richard and Julie have a substantial investment portfolio which is continuing to grow. Their investment has been predominantly in education, reading books written by experts, attending seminars and workshops. The numerous courses they have worked through have allowed them to take charge of their lives.
